My grandmother-by-marriage Irene (we called her Memere) passed away this past weekend. She was 96, and lived a full, long life. Her death was not expected (she had not been ill), but it was not expected either. She passed in her sleep, as she would have preferred.
Memere was quite a character. She was funny, opinionated, and independent. She always had something to say. She got along great with my Grandmother Mary, with whom she developed a fast frienship when they meet at my wedding almost 9 years ago. After my Grandma passed away last May, she would frequently tell me how much she missed their weekly conversations.
Memere will be missed – and remembered with much love.
